Chinese Gender Chart

I have been spending a bit of time online looking for a Chinese gender chart.  Although I have found a number of calculators with dropdown menus, I have had a difficult time locating a good representation of the original Chinese gender chart.  Thanks to Google images and a little research, I was able to find a gender chart that supposedly represents the data originally presented in the original chart.

Using the Chinese gender chart

To use the Chinese gender chart, you simply follow you age across and the baby’s month of conception down. The intersection is the gender determination for the gender chart.  It is important when using this chart, or talking about it with friends to know that the original Chinese gender chart was based upon the mother’s lunar age.  This lunar age is significantly different from your solar age which is what we typically refer to when we tell people how old we are.

Gender Prediction

Baby Gender Predictor

There are no end to baby gender predictors online.  I found a different type of predictor at Just Mommies that asks different questions that the others that I have found.  Most baby gender predictors are based upon Chinese gender calculators which use the lunar age of the mother and the month of conception as the basis for the determination.  However as the tool above points out, there are not end to other types of gender predictors.

Gender Basis for Questions

The basis for the questions vary from the medically sound to the just plain silly.  Questions like are you carrying high or low, what are your cravings, and are you happy or melancholy are primarily based upon old wives tales that pregnant mothers have looked to for centuries for gender prediction.  Although opinions of actually accuracy vary, you chances of being correct are still just about 50/50.

Setting online questionnaires aside, gender prediction is becoming more of a science that you can rely on at home.   Although not yet commercialized, there are a number of blood and urine tests that laboratories are looking o commercialize for home use for gender prediction.  As these prediction tools become approved through regulatory agencies, finding out the gender of your baby will become even easier.  That is not to say that online and Chinese gender calculators won’t remain popular.

Gender Predictor

Foundation for Gender Predictors

There are a number of baby gender predictors available online that will theoretically tell you when to conceive, or if you are pregnant, the gender of your baby.  For most of the predictors, the calculations are based upon the Chinese gender calculator which uses the lunar age of the mother and the month in which the baby was conceived to calculate the gender of the baby.

Calculation Basis for Gender Predictors

There are a few other gender predictors online that use calculations based upon the zodiac, the time of day that the baby was conceived, or any number of other factors.    Here is a gender predictor from the babyzone which has as good of chance of being right as any of the others.

Although a gender predictor has a 50/50 chance of being accurate, they should only be used for entertainment, and maybe a little daydreaming.  Scientifically speaking, the only baby gender predictor that has been shown to work is an ultrasound many weeks into the pregnancy.    However, we can  all still dream… can’t we?

Chinese Gender

The Chinese Gender Calendar

The Chinese Gender Calendar was first developed through a Chinese scientist that created the chart which was entombed in a Royal tome approximately 700 years ago.  Many Chinese Gender Calendars that you see on the internet will indicate that is based upon the lunar are of the mother.  However, these sites do not tell you about the actual calculation.

Online  Gender Calendar

The initial method of calculating the Chinese Gender Calendar referenced here, is based upon the Chinese Lunar Calendar.  The calculator on the site, calculates the mothers lunar age in the correct format.

To tool underneath the previously referenced link is the Chinese Gender Calculator that is common across the internet.  It provides no way to actually calculate your Chinese lunar age which is the basis for the calendar.  With that in mind, your results with these other tools correctly determine gender about 50% of the time.

The linked site claims to be tracking the level of success in using the Chinese Gender calculator in both formats, but has not published any data indicating any level of success.  Overall, my feeling is that there are much more scientific methods of determining gender, and although the Chinese Gender Calender may be a fun tool, it is just for entertainment purposes.

Of course, I could be wrong….

Chinese Gender Calendar

There are a number of tools online designed to help you predict the sex of your baby.  Although I have not seen any evidence that any of these actually work,  gender calculators can be entertaining and fun to experiment with.  The Chinese Gender Calendar is a schedule based upon the writings of a Chinese Scientist found in a Chinese tomb.  The Chinese Gender Calendar is based upon the lunar age of the mother and is designed to predict the gender of the baby.

Obviously,  in a patriarchal society such as ancient China, a gender calculator that could determine the best time to conceive a male Chinese heir would be of great value.  I am not sure of the full history of this gender calculator, but  Chinese Gender Calculator in many variations can be found all over the internet.  In fact, the Bump referenced it in an article just a few weeks ago.  The gender calendar is popping up more and more on the different pregnancy pages, and finding out the sex of the baby, or at least when to conceive to optimize the chances of your chosen gender is obviously a great concern for many expecting parents.

With all of that in mind, I have found a Chinese Gender Calculator online that seems like an interesting tool.  As I said, I can’t vouch for its accuracy, but it is fun to see.
