Abi stumbles out of the wreckage of the car, horrified to see the driver’s side is smashed in. At the wedding, Lauren learns of the accident, and Tanya races to the hospital with Jack. She’s relieved to find Abi safe, but Max is nowhere to be found. Searching desperately, Tanya finds his clothes and watch in an empty hospital cubicle. Fearing that Max is dead, Tanya’s sobbing with grief when Max appears, battered and bruised, but safe. Tanya throws her arms around him, and the embrace turns into a passionate kiss. Max tells Tanya he loves her, and wants her to admit she loves him too. They quickly pull apart when interrupted by Vanessa and Greg, and Greg invites Max and Vanessa to the wedding reception at the Vic. Max declines. Jack’s still adamant that Ronnie tell him the truth, but is interrupted by news of the car crash. At the hospital, Ronnie visits the maternity ward where she gave birth. Haunted by memories of her baby, she rushes out, telling Jack that James isn’t his son. Jack chases after her. Arriving back on the Square, Ronnie walks into the Vic, and tells Kat the baby isn’t James, he’s Tommy. Kat’s furious and thinks Ronnie’s sick. Ronnie explains that James died on New Year’s Eve, and she took Tommy from his cot in the Vic. She tearfully tries to apologize and gives the baby to Kat, insisting that he really is Tommy. Kat can’t take it in. Alfie wants to phone the police, Ronnie assures him she already has, and leaves. Jack rushes after her, begging her to …
