How early can you start taking prenatal vitamins?

We will be trying to get pregnant in about a yr and a half. And I was wondering when would a good time be to start taking prenatal vitamins? A friend of mine, who is also aiming for the same conception time, has already started taking them. Is taking them this early beneficial for the future pregnancy??

I’m thinking of taking prenatals for hair/etc (not pregnant). Is this vitamin safe?

I know it’s important not to go crazy with the iron and some other nutrients if you aren’t pregnant. This one seems reasonable to me, is there anything I should be concerned about?

Should I be taking any vitamins besides the one daily prenatal vitamin?

I am 20 weeks pregnant. I read that it was good to take Omega 3 supplements as well as vitamin D, but wasn’t sure if these items were covered with the basic prenatal vitamin. What are others out there taking?
